Hockey
Last Week: In their final non-conference series before NCHC play begins, the No. 10 RedHawks split a home series with St. Lawrence. Miami fought back valiantly to nearly overcome a four-goal deficit in the second period. After trailing 5-2 after 40 minute of play, Blake Coleman and Anthony Louis scored 14 seconds apart to pull MU within 5-4 with seven minutes remaining, but that was as close as things got (Recap). The Red and White rebounded on Saturday night, erasing a 1-0 first period deficit to win 2-1 in overtime thanks to goals by John Doherty and Sean Kuraly (Recap). Miami outshot St. Lawrence 53-11 on Saturday and 95-27 on the weekend. This Week: The RedHawks hit the road to begin NCHC play with a series at Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday.
Soccer
Last Week: Miami went on the road and split league contests at Akron and Buffalo. Maggie Scott tallied her third game-winning goal of the season 3:57 into double overtime to lift the RedHawks to a 1-0 win against the Zips on Friday (Recap). In a match-up of the league’s top two teams on Sunday, it was Buffalo that scored in both halves to clinch the regular season MAC title by topping Miami 2-0 (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks finish the regular season at Ball State having already locked in the No. 2 seed for the MAC Tournament, which begins with a home quarterfinal match against the No. 7 seed on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Men’s Cross Country
Last Week: A small group of runners were sent to the Cedarville Open. Matt Bromley (fifth), Ed Wigton (sixth) and Jake Brumfield (10th) all-posted top-10 finishes at the non-scoring meet, with Bromley’s performance earning him a spot in the lineup for next week’s MAC Cross Country Championship (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks head to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan for the 2014 MAC Championship on Saturday.
Women’s Cross Country
Last Week: Miami was idle last week. This Week: The RedHawks head to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan for the 2014 MAC Championship on Saturday.
Volleyball
Last Week: Miami (14-8 overall,7-3 MAC) upped its winning streak to five with a pair of victories on its home court. While it ended up being a grind at some points, the Miami University volleyball team used leadership from its juniors and seniors to earn a 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 15-8) victory over Toledo on Thursday. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) Miami increased its win streak to five on Friday with a solid, 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 32-30) victory over Ball State. (Recap) Earlier in the week, the MAC honored redshirt junior middle hitter Jenny Ingle as its East Division Offensive Player of the Week. (Release). Senior setter/right side hitter Meg Riley was honored by the MAC as its Female Scholar Athlete of the Week (Release) This Week: The RedHawks home stretch continues with another pair of matches this weekend at Milett Hall. Miami hosts Buffalo on Friday at 7 p.m. and follows with a contest against Akron on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Field Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks (6-11, 3-2 MAC) picked up a big 3-0 MAC win over Missouri State on Friday (Recap). The team came back home and earned a 6-1 win on Senior Day against UC Davis (Recap). Valentina Neira had a huge seven-point performance against the Aggies on Sunday while Ali Froede scored a goal in each game. Alysa Xavier earned the shutout in goal against the Bears and Christina Heston earned the win over the Aggies. Next Week: Miami will travel to Ball State for the final game of the regular season starting at 1 p.m.
Golf
Last Week: Miami finished seventh at the Pinetree Intercollegiate. The RedHawks saw both senior Scott Cahill and freshman Patrick Flavin place in the top 10 individually. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) This Week: The RedHawks participate in their final tournament of the fall when they travel to southwestern Florida for the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport and FGCU Classic. Miami will play 36 holes on Monday and finish the event with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Last Week: In its lone competition of the week, Miami sustained a 172-115 loss to Ohio State on Thursday evening at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center. Sophomore Stephanie LeMire was the lone RedHawk to collect a first-place finish, earning the win in the 200 breaststroke. (RECAP) Earlier in the week, LeMire was tabbed the MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for her efforts in a loss at Purdue and win against Xavier. (RELEASE) This Week: Miami is idle until hosting Butler on Nov. 8.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
Last Week: Miami did not compete. This Week: The RedHawks host a pair of meets. The RedHawks entertain Purdue at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 and welcomes Cleveland State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Women’s Tennis
Last Week: Miami did not compete. This Week: Miami returns to the courts for the final time this fall when the RedHawks compete at the Schwartz Challenge hosted by Purdue University Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
