Women's Swimming Wins First Meet

OXFORD, Ohio—Winning all 14 events, Miami University women’s swimming team earned its first win of the season. The RedHawks dominated the Xavier University Musketeers with a score of 145-102 in the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Stephanie LeMire won two individual events. She captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.16, and the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 52.80. She also competed on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. On the relay team, along with LeMire, was sophomore Elise Campbell, junior Sara Krueger and senior Annie Marquiss. They had a time of 1:36.55.
Junior Stephanie Nemeth, freshman Morgan Quesnel and freshman Shay Spelman all picked up their first collegiate wins during the meet. Nemeth earned her win with a time of 58.38 in the 100-yard butterfly. She also swam on the 400-yard medley relay team, which consisted of Nemeth, senior Katie Bootsma, freshman Casey Frazier and junior Natalie Rohr, finished with a time of 3:57.34. Quesnel clocked a time of 2:10.30 to win the 200-yard butterfly. Spelman took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle with final times of 10:23.51 and 5:09.43, respectively.
Junior Michele Rielly picked up her first two wins as a Miami RedHawk, after transferring from the University of Alabama last year. She took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.51 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.05.
Other first-place finishers include sophomore Logan Klinsky, Marquiss, Elise Campbell and junior Aubrey Kluth. Klinsky won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.37. Marquiss clocked a time of 24.00, which won her the 50-yard freestyle. Campbell took first place in the 200-yard breaststroke touching the wall in a time of 2:25.89. Kluth won with a time of 4:33.46 in the 400-yard IM.
“The women did a great job today after being gone all day yesterday at Purdue and then coming back and racing today,” Miami head coach Mark Davis stated. “We had quite a few kids that swam faster here than at Purdue yesterday. I was really happy with them.”
The team takes on Ohio State University next on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 6:00 p.m. in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
