CLEVELAND, Ohio—For the first time in his RedHawks' career, Miami University’s Grant Stafford has been named as the Mid-American Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for his performance in the RedHawks’ 171-112 win over Evansville last week.
The freshman (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood High School) was a first-place finisher in both the 500 freestyle and the 1000 freestyle in Miami’s first road contest of 2014.
In the 1000 freestyle, Stafford finished with a time of 9:52.64, nearly 20 seconds faster than the next fastest in that event. He finished the 500 freestyle six seconds faster than the second-place finisher with a time of 4:47.22.
Stafford has been swimming well all season, winning at least one individual event in every competition thus far.
The RedHawks and Stafford return to action Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to face-off against the University at Buffalo in a Mid-American clash.
