Listed below is a recap of last week's results as well as a look ahead at this week's games. Enjoy!
Football
Last week: The RedHawks (1-2) fell to Boise State, 39-12, on the road Saturday in Boise, Idaho. Pat Hinkel paced the team early on with an interception and a fumble recovery (RECAP). This week: Miami returns to Oxford for its homecoming game and conference opener against Massachusetts Saturday, Sept. 22 at noon.
Women's Soccer
Last week: The RedHawks (6-2) split a pair of games over the weekend. Miami lost to IPFW, 1-0, in a 2OT home game Friday (RECAP) and beat Indiana State, 4-0, on the road Sunday in Terre Haute, Ind. (RECAP). This week: The RedHawks begin conference play hosting two games, starting with Akron Friday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. Miami then plays Buffalo Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
Field Hockey
Last week: The RedHawks (2-6) dropped a pair of road games to Virginia and William & Mary over the weekend. Miami lost to Virginia, 6-1, Saturday (RECAP) and fell to Williams & Mary, 2-1, Sunday (RECAP). This week: Miami travels to play Central Michigan in its conference opener Friday, Sept. 21 in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. at 2 p.m. and returns home to play Georgetown Sunday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m.
Volleyball
Last week: The RedHawks (5-8) went 1-2 in the Hoosier Classic Friday and Saturday in Bloomington, Ind. Miami opened the tournament with a win against Chattanooga (RECAP) Friday, but dropped a pair of games Saturday to Valparaiso (RECAP) and Indiana (RECAP). This week: MU opens conference play at home against Kent State Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. and Ohio Saturday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m.
Men's & Women's Cross Country
Last week: The men's team took second at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn. Saturday behind a fifth-place performance from Steve Kiplagat (RECAP). The women's team was led by Jess Hoover, who finished sixth in the 6k at the Spartan Invitational Friday in East Lansing, Mich. (RECAP). This week: The women's team has a week off before competing in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29 in Chicago. The men's team also has a week off before its Saturday, Sept. 29 meet at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio.
Men's Golf
Last week: The RedHawks opened their season playing in the Marshall Invite Monday and Tuesday in Huntington, W.Va. and the Wolf Run Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday in Zionsville, Ind. Miami took fourth out of 16 teams in the Marshall Invite (RECAP) and 10th out of 14 teams in the Wolf Run Intercollegiate (RECAP). This week: Miami travels to Bloomington, Ind. for the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate Saturday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 23.
Ice Hockey
Last week: The RedHawks named senior defenseman Steven Spinell their captain for the 2012-13 season. Spinell will be the team's only captain after Miami had tri-captains last year when Alden Hirschfeld and Will Weber, who graduated, and Reilly Smith, who turned pro after his junior year, made up Miami's leadership core (FULL STORY).
Tennis
Last week: The Miami tennis team opened its season with a dominating performance at the Ball State Fall Invitational Friday and Saturday, winning four singles flights (RECAP). Nimisha Mohan, Alix Thurman, Katherine Castro and Ramona Costea each finished the weekend undefeated in four matches, while Christine Guerrazzi earned three wins before falling to Thurman in their bracket final. This week: The RedHawks have some down time before competing in the Michigan State Invitational Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7.
