OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University's Athletic Communications staff is initiating a new strategy to increase the amount of publicity and other visibilities that RedHawk Athletics receives locally, regionally and nationally.
Peter Marx will exclusively serve as a reporter, writer, blogger and Tweeter. A Toledo native whose younger sister, Hilary, attends Miami University, he comes to Oxford from Prescott, Ariz. where he has served as the sports editor of the Prescott Daily Courier since 2010. He also served on the staff of the ABC-TV affiliate in Toledo following his graduation from the University of Cincinnati.
Marx's regular blog-"Marx on Miami"-appears on the athletic department's website at www.MURedHawks.com. He'll compose "Miami Mondays" on Monday, a review of the past weekend action and the coming week's events. Also, early in the week, he'll submit a feature entitled "High Marx", highlighting the most outstanding performances by RedHawk athletes the previous week. By mid-week, he will gather the best quotes from RedHawk student-athletes, coaches and administrators, called "Quotation Marx". And he'll be out at RedHawk practices of all sports, gathering unique news items to share with Miami fans across the nation.
In addition, Marx will cover the top events of the week, both at home and on the road. He'll be in the press box at every RedHawk road football game in 2012, providing stories and features about Coach Don Treadwell's teams.
Marx also will serve as a correspondent for other regional and national media outlets, submitting news to the hometown media of Miami's student-athletes.
"Miami athletics has to battle the Reds, the Bengals, the University of Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio State, Dayton and the great high school teams in Ohio for space in Ohio's daily newspapers," said Mike Pearson, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. "More than 75 percent of Miami's alumni reside in the state of Ohio, including 40,000 in Greater Cincinnati alone. We're willing to provide any newspaper in the state and beyond with a correspondent who will be totally tuned in to Miami athletics. Peter is a very talented writer and we will make him available to all of our media outlets who aren't able to come to Oxford to cover RedHawk teams and student-athletes."
Marx also will have a frequent presence on Twitter (@RedHawkReMarx) and other social media outlets.
