Olympic Trials: Miami Divers Advance

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University sophomore Lacey Houser (Danville, IN) and former men's standout Chris Heaton (Centerville) have advanced to the finals in their event competitions at the 2012 Olympic Diving Trials.
The two Miamians are among 120 of America's best divers who are making bids for just 16 spots on America's team. They are competing at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.
Houser, a 16th-place finisher in the semifinals of the 10-meter platform, compiled a score of 531.45. Sunday's finals begin at approximately 4 p.m. ET. Houser was a second-team All-Mid-American Conference member in 2012 as a freshman.
On Friday, June 22, at 11 p.m. ET, Heaton will vie for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team in the men's three-meter synchronized diving event. He and his partner, Aaron Fleshner, placed seventh in the semifinals with a score of 696.99.
Heaton, the MAC's only eight-time diving champion (2006-09), also advanced to the finals in the three-meter springboard, placing 13th Wednesday night with a score of 715.90. Sunday's finals start at 3 p.m. ET. Heaton is a member of the National Diving Team that trains at the National Training Center in Indianapolis.
