OXFORD, Ohio -- MURedHawks.com continues its salute to Miami University's Olympic Trials swimmers, today featuring backstroker extraordinaire Leah Thornton (Helena, AL).

She will compete in a pair of events at the Trials in Omaha, Nebr., the 100 and 200 backstroke.
Thornton, a first-team All-MAC selection last year, will enter her senior season in 2012-13. At the 2012 MAC Championships, Westrick and the RedHawk 200 medley relay squad tied for first. Three other relay squads--the 400 medley, the 800 freestyle and the 200 IM--finished second, third and seventh, respectively. Individually, Westrick won the 100 backstroke and placed fifth in the 200 backstroke.
Four other Miami University women's swimmers--Maegan O'Connor (Fishers, IN), Bekka Westrick (Fairfield), Maddie Kete (Bay Village) and alumnae Megan Brunn (Mansfield)--have also qualified to compete at this summer's Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. from June 25 through July 2. The Olympic Swimming Trials will receive sixteen-and-a-half hours of live and tape delayed coverage on the NBC SPORTS NETWORK from June 25-July 2.
They join diver Lacey Houser (Danville, IN), who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials last summer. She will compete in the 10-meter platform event. Miami diving alum Chris Heaton (Centerville) also is entered in the three-meter springboard and the three-meter synchro event. Houser and Heaton compete at the Olympic Diving Trials this week in Federal Way, Washington. The Olympic Diving Trials will receive nine hours of live and tape delayed coverage on the NBC SPORTS NETWORK from June 19-22.
