OXFORD, Ohio -- For Miami University sophomore Lacey Houser (Danville, IN) and former RedHawk Chris Heaton (Centerville), the road to the 2012 Olympic Games in London runs through the Pacific Northwest. And it all starts Monday (June 18).
Houser will be representing Miami in the 10-meter platform diving competition, while Heaton will vie for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team on the three-meter board and in the men's three-meter synchronized diving event.
The two Miamians are among 120 of America's best divers who are making bids for just 16 spots on America's team. Notable participants competing at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington, include three-time Olympian Troy Dumais, 2011 World platform silver medalist David Boudia, and 2008 Olympians Kelci Bryant, Chris Colwill, Thomas Finchum, Haley Ishimatsu and Christina Loukas.
Houser, a second-team All-Mid-American Conference member in 2012 as a freshman, performs in the 10-meter platform preliminaries on Wednesday (June 20) at approximately 2 p.m. ET.
Heaton, the MAC's only eight-time diving champion (2006-09), begins preliminary competition in the three-meter synchro at 6 p.m. ET. Then on Wednesday (June 20) at 1 p.m. ET, he competes in the three-meter board preliminaries. Heaton is a member of the 2011 National Diving Team that trains at the National Training Center in Indianapolis.
The Olympic Diving Trials will receive nine hours of live and tape delayed coverage on the NBC Sports Network from June 19-22.
