Miami's Westrick Readies for Olympic Trials

OXFORD, Ohio -- MURedHawks.com continues its salute to Miami University's Olympic Trials swimmers, today featuring two-event ace Bekka Westrick (Fairfield).

She will compete in a pair of events at the Trials in Omaha, Nebr., the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Westrick had a fabulous junior season, being named first-team All-Mid-American Conference and first-team Academic All-MAC. She was the MAC Swimmer of the Week (Feb. 8) and was a three-time honoree as Miami Athlete of the Week (Oct. 24?]30, Nov. 28-Dec. 4 and Jan. 30-Feb. 5).
At the 2012 MAC Championships, Westrick and the 200 medley relay squad tied for first. Two other relay squads--the 400 medley and the 200 freestyle--finished second and third, respectively. Individually, Westrick placed second in the 100 butterfly and third in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Four other Miami University women's swimmers--Maegan O'Connor (Fishers, IN), Leah Thornton (Helena, AL), Maddie Kete (Bay Village) and alumnae Megan Brunn (Mansfield)--have also qualified to compete at this summer's Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. from June 25 through July 2. They join diver Lacey Houser (Danville, IN) who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials last summer. She will compete in the 10-meter platform event.
