The event started four years ago to raise funds for a full-time certified athletic trainer internship position. In 2010, the internship fund was named in the honor of Gale Newton, who served 30 years as the head athletic trainer at Miami. The event format is a four-person scramble. There can be men's, women's and co-ed teams. The cost of registration is $120 per person and $410 for a foursome. Registration for the outing includes the following:
** Range balls, greens fee and cart for 18 holes of golf at the Hueston Woods Golf Course.
** $60 of the $120 fee is tax deductible.
** Continental-style breakfast prior to teeing off.
** Barbeque-style dinner including main course, sides, beverages and dessert.
** On-course beverages available at the pavilion.
** Commemorative T-shirt.
** A day of laughs with the best sports medicine staff in the Mid-American Conference!
There will be prizes for low net score, longest drive and closest to the pin. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
Any individual or business that would like to advertise at the golf scramble may sponsor holes at the rate of $100 per hole. In ex-change for the donation, the sponsor will receive signage at the hole. The entity will receive mention by the MUSM Staff during the cookout and awards ceremony at the end of the day. Remember, any sponsorship will be 100% tax deductible. To sponsor a hole, contact Jen Beardslee at 513-529-4777.
