WOMEN'S TENNIS
Last Week: Senior Stephanie Danesis was named the MAC Player of the Year and earned First-Team All-MAC honors, while head coach Anca Dumitrescu was tabbed MAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and sophomore Christiana Raymond earned Second-Team All-MAC honors. (RELEASE) No. 1 seed Miami (14-10) cruised to a 5-0 win against Ball State in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals. (RECAP) A furious rally in doubles by the No. 3 team of Alix Thurman and Raymond gave Miami an early lead and the momentum held for a 4-0 semifinal victory over Bowling Green Saturday. (RECAP) As can be expected in a championship final, top-seeded Miami and No. 2 Akron went toe-to-toe for three hours Sunday afternoon. In the end, Akron proved to be one set better, defeating Miami 4-3 for the second straight year. Thurman and senior Riekie Honiball were named to the MAC All-Tournament Team. MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Last Week: Six different RedHawks were victorious Saturday while Miami dominated the throws events at its own RedHawk Invitational. Senior Adam Ruiz won the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 57.98m/190-3. In the discus, Miami claimed the top four spots led by senior Nathan Hoch with a heave of 50.92m/167-1. Sophomore Jahquil Hargrove won the 200m dash in 22.35, while freshman Skyler Coburn won the 400m dash in a personal-best 50.39. Sophomore Matt Gambill placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.98m/6-6, while classmate Taylor Celestin was also victorious, doing so in the javelin with a throw of 52.86m/173-5. (RECAP) Junior Jarrod Eick ran the 5000m run Thursday night at the prestigious Penn Relays as the lone RedHawk representative at the meet. He clocked 14:22.76 to place 17th out of 30 runners. (RECAP) Last week, Miami swept the Mid-American Conference's weekly honors as senior Jordan Goffena claimed MAC Field Athlete of the Week while sophomore Hargrove garnered MAC Track Athlete of the Week for their performances at the All-Ohio Championships. (RELEASE) This Week: Miami has one final tune-up before the MAC Championships as the RedHawks compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational, hosted by Indiana University, Friday, May 4 in Bloomington, Ind.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
Last Week: Senior Kelley Miller set the school record for the second time in the 1500m run Saturday evening at the famed Drake Relays. Miller clocked 4:23.64 in the race, topping her previous-best mark of 4:24.71, which she set earlier this year when she first broke the school record. She finished seventh in the race in a field of 20. (RECAP) Two throwers also represented Miami at the Drake Relays on Friday. Senior Alexandra Roberts finished 15th out of 30 in the shot put with a heave of 15.29m/50-2. Sophomore Tori Paterra placed 11th of 23 in the javelin with a throw of 43.75m/143-6. (RECAP) A pair of RedHawks won events Saturday at the RedHawk Invitational, held at Miami's own George Rider Track. Freshman Adaora Anunike captured first in the shot put, smashing her personal best with a heave of 13.55m/44-4.5. Sophomore Erin Riley was Miami's other winner, finishing first in the 800m run in a season-best 2:16.03, winning by over a second in a field of 14. SOFTBALL
Last Week: It was another big week for senior pitcher Jessica Simpson. She earned MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week honors for the fifth time this season and 14th time in her career (RELEASE) and also was tabbed the MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, marking the second time this season she has earned this honor. (RELEASE) In a doubleheader at Buffalo on Friday afternoon, Simpson threw her second no-hitter of the season and the third of her career as Miami (32-16; 13-5 MAC) swept the Bulls. Behind Simpson, Miami took the first game, 3-0 and then used an eight-run sixth inning to claim a 9-3 win in the nightcap. (RECAP) Three home runs resulted in all five of the game's scores as Miami topped host Kent State on Saturday afternoon, 4-1. (RECAP) The RedHawks earned their sixth-straight victory and made it a perfect weekend with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Kent State on Sunday. (RECAP) With the win, Miami clinched a spot in the upcoming MAC Tournament May 9-12. Currently in third place in the league standings, the RedHawks need one more win to secure a top-four seed and a first-round bye in the double-elimination tournament. If Miami can move into a top-two seed, the Red and White will earn a double bye. This Week: Miami rounds out the regular season at home, hosting Bowling Green in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday before entertaining Toledo in single games set for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
BASEBALL
Last Week: Miami (22-23; 7-11 MAC) split a mid-week series with Indiana before going 1-2 at Buffalo over the weekend. Sophomore Charles Zubrod allowed just four hits in seven innings and Miami tied a season high with 16 hits, leading the RedHawks to an 8-7 victory at Indiana Tuesday. Senior Matt Rosinski earned his fourth save by shutting down a Hoosier rally in the ninth. (RECAP) A late Miami rally fell short as Indiana scored six runs in the second inning and held on for the 6-3 win Wednesday night at McKie Field. (RECAP) Miami fell behind 2-0 in the first inning and never recovered in a 9-3 loss to Buffalo Friday afternoon. (RECAP) Senior Shawn Marquardt threw his fourth complete game of the season Saturday, but four early runs sent Miami to a 4-2 defeat by Buffalo Saturday afternoon at Audubon Park. (RECAP) Junior first baseman Kevin Bower went 3-for-4 from the plate with a run and four RBI to propel the RedHawks to a 6-5 win at Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. (RECAP) This Week: Miami hosts Akron in a three-game weekend series May 4-6. Game times are set for 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The men's golf team competes in the MAC Championships May 4-6, hosted by Northern Illinois at the Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course in Sugar Grove, Ill. The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Friday and single rounds of 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday.
The football team wrapped up its spring practice sessions Saturday at Yager Stadium with the annual Red & White game. Zac Dysert threw for 214 yards and a touchdown, completing 11-of-15 attempts. Congragulations to Brandon Brooks, a standout offensive guard for Miami University's football team the last four seasons, who was chosen in the third round by the Houston Texans in the 2012 National Football League Draft. Having recently completed a difficult spring exhibition slate, the women's soccer team revealed a challenging 2012 schedule that was announced by head coach Bobby Kramig Friday. The RedHawks will host 10 home games in 2012. (RELEASE)
The Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Women's Sports Association held its 19th annual awards banquet on April 23. Keeping a yearly tradition of having several Miami athletes honored, senior Jessica Simpson was named the Softball Sportswoman of the Year, while junior Courtney Osborn was named the Co-Women's Basketball Sportswoman of the Year. In addition, former Miami Executive Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Karen Womack received the Lifetime Service Award and sophomore field hockey goalkeeper Sarah Mueller received the Jean Dowell Scholarship for Leadership. Synchronized skating's Martha Buckley and men's cross country/track and field's Brian Gallagher were the 2012 recipients of the sixth annual Spirit of Miami Award, presented to both a female and male senior student-athlete for each of their exceptional enthusiastic commitments to their teams. The awards were presented Monday, April 23 at the athletic department's annual Senior Dessert at Miami's Shriver Center. (RELEASE)
