Although Saturday rain caused several events to be postponed until Sunday, it was an exciting week for Miami Athletics packed with home events. Pitcher Jessica Simpson broke the MAC career wins mark, women's tennis secured at least a share of its fourth straight regular-season title and extended its MAC regular-season win streak, head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly tied Miami Softball's career win mark, baseball hosted the Joe Nuxhall Classic and battled in the championship game, senior track and field athlete Jordan Goffena captured his second MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award and Rachael Clay vaulted into second in program history in the 400m dash. Oxford will be buzzing again this week with a multitude of home athletic events.
SOFTBALL
Last Week: With the RedHawks' (25-14; 6-4 MAC) 5-2 and 7-5 doubleheader sweep at Morehead State on Thursday, senior pitcher Jessica Simpson became the MAC's all-time wins leader, while head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly tied Miami's career record for wins. Simpson owns 87 career wins, while Schonely earned her 172nd triumph guiding the RedHawks. (RECAP) Rainstorms pushed Saturday's game to a Sunday doubleheader with Ball State. The Cardinals won the first game, 9-6, and scored three runs in the top of the seventh to come from behind and capture the nightcap, 13-12. (RECAP) For the third time in four weeks and the fourth time this season, Simpson was named the MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week following weekend sweeps of Akron and Ohio. It was the 13th time in her career she won the award. (RELEASE) This Week: Miami hosts Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m. Tuesday before hosting Central Michigan in a doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and Eastern Michigan in single games set for Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Last Week: In its final home game of the season as it honored its three seniors -- Stephanie Danesis, Riekie Honiball and Jessica Parr -- Miami (12-9; 7-0 MAC) seized at least a share of its fourth-consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season crown and extended its MAC regular-season win streak to 32 straight with a 6-1 win over Northern Illinois. The RedHawks also guaranteed themselves the top seed at the MAC Championships. Teaming up with Christine Guerrazzi, Danesis notched the 150th win of her Miami career with an 8-2 doubles triumph. (RECAP) This Week: Miami travels to Ball State for its final game of the regular season on Friday, April 20.
BASEBALL
Last Week: A groundout in the eighth inning was all Miami (17-19; 4-8 MAC) needed Tuesday night in the opening round of the Joe Nuxhall Classic. Three Miami pitchers combined for the RedHawks' second shutout of the season, 1-0 over Xavier at McKie Field. (RECAP) Wright State broke a tie in the top of the ninth inning to take a 2-1 win over Miami in the championship game of the Joe Nuxhall Classic Wednesday night in Oxford. (RECAP) After scoring just one run in each of its last two games, Miami's offense came alive, but was not enough as the RedHawks fell to Northern Illinois, 8-7, Friday night at McKie Field. Every batter for Miami had a base hit, but the Huskies scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth to win. (RECAP) Saturday rainstorms pushed the remainder of the series to a doubleheader on Sunday. Miami pounded out 25 hits and scored 25 runs but was swept by Northern Illinois, 7-5 and 13-11, Sunday afternoon at McKie Field. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks host Dayton at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 before hosting Bowling Green in a three-game weekend series Friday-Sunday. Game times are set for 6 p.m., 3 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Miami's game at Dayton scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Last Week: A pair of RedHawks posted top three finishes on Friday at the Jesse Owens Classic. Sophomore Tori Paterra placed second in the javelin with a season-best toss of 151-9/46.25m, which now gives her the top eight javelin throws in school history. She was the top collegiate finisher at the meet. Senior Kelley Miller claimed third in the 1500m run in 4:28.38. (RECAP) Senior Rachael Clay smashed her personal best in the 400m dash Saturday to highlight Miami's team performance on the second and final day of the Jesse Owens Classic. Clay finished sixth in the 400m dash but did so in 54.43, which vaults her into second in school history in the event (53.58 is the record). (RECAP) This Week: Miami returns home April 20-21 to host the All-Ohio Championships in the second of three home meets this year.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Last Week: Two RedHawks recorded all-time top-10 marks and each finished sixth in their event on Friday at the Jesse Owens Classic. Junior Jarrod Eick earned sixth in the 1500m run, clocking a personal-best 3:46.32, which moves him up to sixth in school history. Sophomore Rob Stein also took sixth in the discus with a personal-best heave of 170-7/51.99m, which ranks 10th in school history. (RECAP) Three RedHawks recorded top-five finishes Saturday on the second day of the meet. Sophomore Jahquil Hargrove earned fourth in the 400m dash in 48.31. Freshman Skyler Coburn was fifth in the 400m hurdles in 55.26, while senior Jordan Goffena crossed in fifth in the 110m hurdles in 14.28. (RECAP) After a strong showing at the Miami Invitational two weeks ago, Goffena was tabbed the MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week last week. (RELEASE) This Week: Miami returns home April 20-21 to host the All-Ohio Championships in the second of three home meets this year.
GOLF
Last Week: Miami finished in 11th place at the Hawkeye Invitational. Ben Peacock was Miami's top overall finisher, tying for 21st place at three-over par. (RECAP) This Week: Miami competes in the Boilermaker Invitational this weekend in the RedHawks' final tournament before the MAC Championships.
All three Miami synchronized skating teams take to the ice one last time this weekend (April 20-21) as part of the annual Miami University Ice Show at the Goggin Ice Center. The RedHawks will perform their competitive programs as part of the Ice Show, which is themed "Greetings from College." Friday's show begins at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's show starts at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Goggin Ice Center at 513-529-9800.
Senior defenseman Will Weber joined the rest of his class Friday evening in signing his first professional contract as the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League inked him to a two-year entry level contract. (RELEASE) With the 2011-12 season complete, the final national polls were released Monday and for the fifth straight year, the Miami Hockey team finished in the top 10, coming in at No. 8 in the final USCHO.com Poll and No. 10 in the last USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. (RELEASE) Having already inked nine players to National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period in November, the Miami University hockey team completed its 2012 recruiting class last Thursday as head coach Enrico Blasi announced the signing of Kevin Morris.
