Westrick Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Miami University's Bekka Westrick (Fairfield) has been named Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, becoming the first RedHawk swimmer to be so honored in 2011-12.
The junior freestyle sprint star led Miami to a dual meet victory over rival Ohio last Saturday, 160-140, in the RedHawks' final dual meet of the season. She won both of her individual races and also won a pair of relays, helping Miami earn 40 of its 160 points.
Westrick placed first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.48 and captured the 100 free in 51.49, earning a combined 18 points in the two races.
Westrick also swam the third leg on Miami's winning 200-yard medley relay team that clocked 1:42.49 while she swam her butterfly leg in 24.18. She finished the meet by swimming the lead leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team that touched in 3:26.52, posting a split of 51.33.
Coach Dave Jennings' squad's next action is Feb. 23-26 at the MAC Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by the University of Akron.
