Miami's Men's Swimmers Beaten by Purdue

OXFORD, Ohio - Purdue handed Miami's men's swimming team its first loss of the season Saturday, 192-103, at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center.
Though no Miami swimmers took first place in any of the 16 events, there were several fine showings by RedHawk athletes. Three of Miami's runners-up were freshmen. One of the rookies, Oxford's EVAN BADER, had two second-place finishes. Bader placed second in both the 100 breaststroke (58.74) and the 200 breast (2:08.77).
Senior ALEX REINHARDT placed second in the 1000 freestyle (9:44.71), finishing two seconds behind Purdue's Nate Hopkins.
Freshman CHRIS DIETER finished just 23-one-hundredths of a second behind Purdue's Guillermo Blanco in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:42.29. It was Dieter's best time of the season.
Sophomore JOE BAUMGARTNER lost the 100 freestyle to Purdue's Danny Tucker by less than a second, 45.32 to 46.12.
Freshman SEAN NERI was a narrow loser in the 200 backstroke, 1:55.27 to 1:55.25. It was Neri's best time of the season.
Senior diver CHRIS HOPPLER placed second to Purdue's Layne Rogers in the three-meter diving event, 357.30 to 351.08.
Miami's 800 freestyle relay team of senior IAN JOYCE, Reinhardt, Baumgartner and ANDY KILKENNY got first-place points with a time of 7:01.63.
"We had a really good meet today," said head coach PETE LINDSAY. "We got outstanding performances from our rookies. All around, it was a competitive meet."
Lindsay's RedHawks host Cleveland State next Saturday (Nov. 3). Events begin at 2 p.m.
