"Marx on Miami"
10/18/2012 12:00:00 AM | General
Every week for the rest of the 2012-13 school year, I'll be honoring Miami University's top athletes in a blog post titled "High Marx", which recognizes them for outstanding performances. Enjoy!
"High Marx"
Soccer
- Junior Katy Dolesh scored a pair of goals over the weekend to help Miami stay undefeated in the MAC and extend its winning streak to a program-record nine games. She scored Miami's first goal at Northern Illinois last Friday, as Miami went on to win, 3-2. She then scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 win at Toledo, giving the RedHawks their first win at Toledo since 2002.
Hockey
- Sophomore Cody Murphy dished out a career-high three assists in Saturday's 5-1 win over Colgate. The three points also marked a career high as he had just one career multi-point game entering the weekend. Murphy had a total of three career assists coming into the game, never tallying more than one in a contest.
- Freshman goaltender Ryan McKay had a stellar debut in goal for the RedHawks Friday, pitching a shutout in his first career game, as he led Miami to its first season-opening shutout in program history, 3-0. He stopped all 24 shots that came his way, including 12 in the final period, to become the first Miami goalie in program history to record a whitewash in his first career start while also earning his first career win in net. McKay shut down a Colgate team that had scored 10 goals in its season-opening win over Niagara. He was the No. 2 star of the game Friday.
Women's Cross Country
- Redshirt junior Monica Fischer was Miami's top finisher for the first time in her career Saturday at Pre-Nationals, crossing in 85th place with a 6K personal-best time of 21:27.7, shaving over 40 seconds off her previous-best 6K time, which she clocked last year. She was running in a field of 265 runners in the Red (seeded) Race, which consisted of several nationally and regionally ranked teams. Fischer led Miami to a 22nd-place team finish out of 38 teams, which was tops among the three MAC teams in the race.
