Miami Finishes Fifth at Junior World Qualifier

LOWELL, Mass.-Miami University's junior synchronized skating team finished fifth among the nine-team field at the Junior World Qualifier on Saturday evening.
The RedHawks finished with a combined score of 114.00. Entering Saturday's free skate, Miami sat in fourth place after posting a score of 41.62 for its short program on Friday evening. The RedHawks had the sixth-best free skate score, notching a 72.38 for their long program themed Dancing in Paris.
Skyliners won the event, jumping from third to first with a combined score of 162.44, including a free-skate score of 112.83. Team Braemar, who was leading the competition after the short program, finished second with a combined score of 161.24, while Lexettes-in second place heading into Saturday-finished in third with a combined score of 151.29.
Chicago Jazz jumped ahead of Miami in the final standings with a combined score of 130.96. Synchroettes finished in sixth place with a combined score of 110.19, followed by Hockettes (103.56), Precisely Right (69.41) and Evolution (62.23).
The RedHawk collegiate and senior teams return to the ice next weekend (Jan. 14-15) at the Mid-America Championships, while the junior team is off until the Mozart Cup International in Salzburg, Austria Jan. 27-29.
