Miami University's junior synchronized skating team returns to the ice this weekend, competing at the Junior World Qualifier in Lowell, Mass. The top two finishers from the event advance to the Junior World Championships later this season.
The RedHawk junior team had a strong showing in its season-opening competition at the Dr. Porter Classic Dec. 3-4. Miami finished fourth among the six-team field, posting a score of 115.79 for the competition. The RedHawks notched a score of 41.83 for their short program, a few mere points out of second. Miami faced four of the nine teams in this weekend's competition at the Dr. Porter Classic.
The RedHawk junior team's short program is themed Cha-Cha and set to "Sway" and "Let's Get Loud," and its free skate program is themed Dancing in Paris.
Breakdown of the Junior World Qualifier
Competition Field: Miami University, Chicago Jazz, Evolution, Hockettes, Lexettes, Precisely Right, Skyliners, Synchroettes, Team Braemar
Short Program: Friday, Jan. 6 - 9:03 p.m. (Miami competes at 10:03 p.m.)
Free Skate Program: Saturday, Jan. 7 - 7:37 p.m.
