Miami Women Complete Weekend Sweep

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Miami's women's swimming and diving team completed a weekend sweep this afternoon at Bowling Green, topping the host Falcons by a score of 178-111.
CHELSEY BRUINGTON (Mission Viejo, CA), LEAH THORNTON (Helena, AL), BEKKA WESTRICK (Fairfield) and diver NIKKI CRAFT (Bay Village) all contributed two individual event victories.
Bruington, a senior, won a pair of freestyle races for the RedHawks. Her first victory came in the 200 free, clipping teammate Westrick at the wall, 1:53.49 to 1:54.29. In the 500 free, Bruington touched just before BG's Emily Waller, 5:08.95 to 5:09.29. She also was a member of the 400 freestyle relay unit that finished first in the final race (3:32.72), leading off for Cynthia Donovan (Cincinnati), Ellen Barhorst (West Chester) and Maddie Kete (Bay Village).
Thornton captured both the 100 and 200 backstroke records with respective times of 58.15 and 2:06.37. Additionally, she touched first in the in the 200 individual medley, but her winning time of 2:09.30 didn't count due to Miami's overwhelming lead in team scoring.
Westrick was in typical winning form, placing first in both the 50 free (23.68) and the 100 free (52.33).
Likewise, Craft was money on both the one- and three-meter boards, diving to respective scores of 242.55 and 252.75.
Other RedHawk winners included Jenny Warmolts (Upper Arlington) in the 1650 freestyle (17:31.51), Kelsey Mallon (Wheaton, IL) in the 200 butterfly (2:05.61), and MAEGAN O'CONNOR (Fishers, IN) in the 100 butterfly (57.44).
Today's RedHawk win comes on the heels of a victory last night at Eastern Michigan, improving their season dual meet record to 7-2 and their mark against MAC opponents to 4-1.
Next Saturday at 1 p.m., Miami hosts arch-rival Ohio in its final dual before the MAC meet (Feb. 23-26).
