Heading overseas to represent the United States, Miami University's junior synchronized skating team returns to the ice this weekend as the RedHawks competed at the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria.
This is Miami's second straight appearance at the Mozart Cup. Last year, the junior team sat in seventh place among the 13-team field after the short program but jumped to sixth place in the final standings with a fifth-place showing in the free skate. It is the junior team's last competitive event before the U.S. National Championships March 1-3.
The RedHawk junior is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Junior World Qualifier in early January. Miami posted a skate for its short program, posting a score of 41.62 to sit in fourth among the nine-team field. The RedHawks finished sixth in the free skate but held on for fifth place at the event.
The RedHawk junior team's short program is themed Cha-Cha and set to "Sway" and "Let's Get Loud," and its free skate program is themed Dancing in Paris.

Periodically on their trip in Austria, freshmen skaters Alexis Monti and Jennifer Stewart will provide updates on the team and give a behind-the-scenes look at the weekend event for MURedHawks.com. Here is their first update from Austria:
Guten Tag Austria!
Finally after a long day of travel and a very restless nine-hour flight to Munich, Germany, we arrived in Salzburg, Austria. Upon arrival we grabbed a quick meal of pizza at a very unique bistro near our hotel. Soon after, we got on our bus for the Sound of Music tour which took us all over Salzburg and stopping at sights from the movie, including the famous St. Michael's Cathedral.
Though we were all on very few hours of sleep, the breathtaking snow topped mountains and frozen lakes of Austria kept us all in awe. Near the end of the tour we were able to spend an hour exploring the town and shops of Mondsee where we also were able to sample decadent desserts of strudel and cake.
Our first day has ended early with a delicious team dinner at our hotel looking over the gorgeous city of Salzburg followed by a much-needed early night sleep to get ready for our exciting day on the ice tomorrow for practice before our competition this weekend.
Liebe & Ehre (Love and Honor)
