Buffalo Swimmers Top Miami Men

BUFFALO, New York -- Brendan Melling (Solon) scored 14 individual points and divers JIM BERES (Columbus) and Chris Hoppler (Germantown, MD) tallied 13 points each, but Miami's men's swimming and diving team lost at Buffalo, 165-127.
It was the RedHawks' second loss of the road trip, having been defeated by Cleveland State on Friday, 179-120. Miami is now 4-6 in dual meet competition in 2011-12.
Melling placed first in the 400 individual medley, swimming the distance in a winning time of 4:08.58, five seconds faster than teammate ANDY KILKENNY (Manchester, MO). Kilkenny also placed second in the 200 freestyle, earning four point with his time of 1:44.46.
Miami's diving tandem of Beres and Hoppler continued their dominance. Beres was victorious on the one-meter board (357.60) while Hoppler placed second., Then, Hoppler captured top honors in the three-meter event (347.55) and Beres took second.
Distance freestyler Alex Reinhardt (Littleton, CO) earned second place in both of 500 and 1000 free events with respective times of 4:42.37 and 9:52.18).
Michael Cavanaugh (Bowling Green) earned the only other runner-up spot for the RedHawks with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly event (1:53.21).
Coach Pete Lindsay's team will next swim on Saturday (Jan. 28) at Ball State, with the first event scheduled for 1 p.m.
