Miami Takes On Unbeaten Ball State

OXFORD, Ohio -- Friday evening, at Ball State's Lewellen Aquatic Center, Miami University's women's swimming and diving team will attempt to become the first team to defeat the Cardinals in 2011-12 dual-meet action. The meet begins at 6 p.m.
Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill's squad, her 32nd Ball State unit, is a perfect 9-0 in dual meets this season, so Miami's Dave Jennings team (4-2) will need to swim at a high level.
It's the 30th and final time that Seibold-Caudill and Jennings will face off against each other in Mid-American Conference dual meet action. Miami's head coach was in his rookie season in 1982-83 when Seibold-Caudill first welcomed him to the MAC.
"Laura and I have been great friends through the years," said Jennings. "She was the first coach to welcome me and we just seemed to hit it off from that very first time we met. I have great respect for her because she has such outstanding character and she really cares about the student-athletes she's coached. It's going to be sad to see her leave, but I know that she's looking forward to retirement.
"Laura has an outstanding team this year. They're swimming very well and it's wonderful to see her close out her career with such a great group of kids."
Last Friday, Miami defeated arch-rival Cincinnati, 184-111, sparked by 11 individual event victories. Four members of the Red & White captured two individual events each--Courtney Collett (Hilton Head Island, SC), Maegan O'Connor (Fishers, IN), Bekka Westrick (Fairfield) and Nikki Craft (Bay Village)--while three others collected one victory apiece.
Ball State's top swimmers include Haley Richter (backstroke/butterfly/IM), Bridgette Ruehl (breaststroke), Carlena Magley (freestyle), Emily Wisolek (freestyle), Katelyn Pratt-Collins (backstroke) and senior diver Christina Riordan.
Miami's travel squad includes: Chelsey Bruington, Mandi Grandjean, Maddie Kete, Courtney Collett, Stephanie Pierce, Kayla Scott, Ellen Barhorst, Leah Thornton, Stacie Clagg, Katie Bootsma, Whitney Mitchell, Molly Tyler, Brianna Fujan, Cynthia Donovan, Leah Thorton, Nicole Wagner, Bekka Westrick, Maegan O'Connor, Caitlin Fujan, Jenny Warmolts, Brittney Rohr, Nikki Craft, Lacey Houser and Lisa Werwinski.
