OXFORD, Ohio -- Eleven individual event victories by Coach Dave Jennings' RedHawk women's swimming and diving team led Miami (4-2) past rival Cincinnati Friday night, 184-111.
Four members of the Red & White captured two individual events each--Courtney Collett, Maegan O'Connor, Bekka Westrick and Nikki Craft--while three others collected one victory apiece.
In the initial race of the meet, the 200 medley relay unit of Leah Thornton, Stacie Clagg, Westrick and Maddie Kete teamed for a one-second win over second-place UC. The RedHawk foursome had a time of 1:45.99.
Collett paced second- and third-place teammates Jenny Warmolts and Stephanie Pearce to a one-two-three finish in the 1000 freestyle. Collett's winning time was 10:31.79.
Katie Bootsma, a freshman from Minnesota, sparked a one-two-three sweep in the 100 backstroke. Her time of 58.47 was just ahead of Thornton and Brianna Fujan.
In the 200 butterfly, O'Connor edged out teammate Kelsey Mallon, 2:06.32 to 2:06.55. Miami's MANDY GRANDJEAN finished third in that event.
Westrick, the RedHawks' sprint ace, beat Miami's Kete in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 23.67. She also captured the 100 free (51.98).
Sophomore diver Nikki Craft continued her dominance on the springboards, winning the one-meter event (310.28) and the three-meter competition (323.63). Teammates LACEY HOUSER, COREY BANGS and Lisa Werwinski placed second, third and fourth, respectively, on the one-meter board. The three-meter event saw Houser take second, Werwinski place third, and Bangs finish fourth.
Thornton, Bootsma and Fujan were first, second and third, respectively, in the 200 backstroke. Thornton's winning time was 2:07.37.
Collett collected her second victory of the meet in the 500 freestyle, beating teammate Chelsey Bruington, 5:09.74 to 5:10.93.
O'Connor's second win was in the 100 butterfly, finishing ahead of teammate Mallon, 56.51 to 58.12.
Though she didn't officially take first in the 200 individual medley, Clagg had the fastest time in the event (2:08.95).
And, in the final race of the meet, the Miami quartet of Kete, Westrick, Cynthia Donovan and Bruington touched the wall first in a time of 1:36.08.
Miami travels to Ball State next Friday to try to improve its record to 2-1 in Mid-American Conference duals.
