While the Miami University synchronized skating team has been training on the ice to prepare for their competitive season, last Saturday morning the RedHawks took part in a different kind of workout for a very worthy cause. The RedHawk skaters raised over $4800 for breast cancer research by participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sept. 24.
The 5K run and walk took place in downtown Cincinnati, and all three of Miami's synchronized skating teams participated. Miami's collegiate and senior teams raised the second and third highest amounts of money, respectively, of any school team registered in the race.

According to the Greater Cincinnati Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure website, up to 75 percent of net proceeds from Komen Race for the Cure will remain in the Cincinnati community to fund breast health community outreach programs. The remainder of the net proceeds, a minimum of 25 percent, will support the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Award and Research Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.
