While it was an exciting week last week full of events, including Family Weekend, and with several teams opening conference action, the week was bittersweet for the Miami Athletics Family as volunteer equipment manager Lyman "Tootie" Wooten passed away last Tuesday after an extended illness. Wooten, an avid supporter of all Miami Athletics teams, was recently named the Red & White Club's Don Loss Volunteer of the Year. (RELEASE)

FOOTBALL
Last Week: Sophomore wide receiver Nick Harwell posted his second-straight 100-yard receiving day as Miami (0-3; 0-1 MAC) fell to Bowling Green, 37-23, on Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium. There were 20,828 fans on hand for Miami's home and Mid-American Conference opener, the third largest crowd since the stadium was renovated in 2005. VOLLEYBALL
Last Week: Miami (10-6; 1-1 MAC) opened MAC play with a decisive 3-0 win at Kent State on Friday. Amy Kendall recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 13 digs. (RECAP) On Saturday, the RedHawks dropped a three-set match at Ohio. (RECAP) This Week: Miami returns home next weekend for two MAC matches. The RedHawks host Buffalo on Friday and Akron on Saturday. Meet the Team Night is following Friday's Buffalo match. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. and will be available to view on www.MURedHawks.com through the Miami All-Access subscription package.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: After winning his second consecutive race to start the 2011 season, Miami University junior cross country runner Jarrod Eick was named Mid-American Conference Men's Runner of the Week last week. (RELEASE) Miami captured its third title in as many meets as the RedHawks seized the LSU Invitational among a 14-team field on Saturday. The RedHawks ran away with the team title, totaling 32 points, as all five scorers finished in the top 12. Junior David Eichenberger was Miami's top finisher and the overall runner-up, clocking 27:09.9, while Eick was right behind in third in 27:10.1. (RECAP) This Week: Miami goes for a fourth straight team win when it looks to defend its title at the All-Ohio Championship Friday, Sept. 30 in Cedarville, Ohio.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Last Week: Miami picked up a 2-1 win at Kent State in its MAC opener on Friday. The RedHawks held a 2-0 advantage with a goal by sophomore Katy Dolesh just 52 seconds into the second half and another goal by sophomore Kayla Zakrzewski in the 76th minute. (RECAP) For the first time this year Miami was shut out, while Buffalo scored 1:18 into the first overtime to break a scoreless battle and hand the RedHawks a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks return home this weekend for their MAC home opener against Ball State at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30. Miami then welcomes defending MAC regular-season champion Toledo on Sunday, Oct. 2, which will be Senior Day, at 1 p.m. Sunday's game can be viewed on www.MURedHawks.com with the Miami All-Access subscription package.

FIELD HOCKEY
Last Week: Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Mueller was tabbed the MAC Defensive Player of the Week last week. (RELEASE) Miami (3-8; 1-1 MAC) capped a three-game week with a 2-1 win over Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Long scored the game winner, while Amanda Seeley recorded the RedHawks' first goal and assisted on the game-winning goal. (RECAP) Miami opened the week with a 3-0 loss to Ball State in its MAC opener. (RECAP) On Saturday, Miami dropped a non-conference game to Michigan, 5-1. (RECAP) This Week: Miami hits the road for a pair of MAC games, traveling to Kent State on Saturday and to Ohio on Sunday. Both games are set for 1 p.m.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: The RedHawks will try to defend their title at the All-Ohio Championship on Friday, Sept. 30 in Cedarville, Ohio.
GOLF
Last Week: Miami was idle last week. This Week: The RedHawks return to action Sept. 26-27 when they compete in the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Ind.
ICE HOCKEY
Last Week: Despite losing two All-Americans, including the program's first Hobey Baker Award winner, from last year's squad, the Miami University hockey team opens the season ranked No. 1 in the country by College Hockey News, which released its preseason top 10 Wednesday. The RedHawks have now been in CHN's preseason top three each of the last three years, coming in at No. 2 in 2009 and No. 3 a year ago. (RELEASE) This Week: The RedHawks host Windsor at 3 p.m. Sunday in exhibition action.
Miami's tennis team wrapped up its first tournament of the season Sunday, winning five of six singles matches in its own event, the Miami Invitational. The highlight was a thrilling three-set triumph by freshman Christine Guerrazzi. (RECAP) Miami returns to action on Oct. 14 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Tournament.
