OXFORD, Ohio - A goal by Jordan Long early in the second half gave Miami a 2-1 victory over Central Michigan Sunday in Mid-American Conference action. The RedHawks improve to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the MAC. The Chippewas fall to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
"We learned a lot of lessons from the Michigan game (yesterday)," said head coach Iñako Puzo. "We put more pressure on the ball throughout the game, which cut the time they had to make their moves."
Central Michigan struck first, scoring only 1:47 into the game. Miami fought right back, getting the equalizer in the 13th minute. From outside the circle, Kylie Landeros sent a long pass directly towards the goal. Amanda Seeley was there in front of the net to tip it in. The game was played mostly in the midfield from there, and the teams went into the halftime break tied at one.
The game-winner for the RedHawks came in the 46th minute. This time it was Seeley who took a hard shot towards the goal, where Long was there to tip it in. Afterwards, Puzo was extremely excited with the performance Seeley had on Sunday.
"Amanda is the quarterback, the coach on the field," said Puzo. "She never gives up on any play and she showed it today."
For the contest, CMU outshot Miami, 9-6. The Chippewas also had the penalty corner advantage at 5-1. Seeley led the RedHawks with two shots, while Sarah Mueller made five saves in net.
Miami returns to action next weekend it travels to Kent State Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
