OXFORD, Ohio - Miami's women's swimming and diving team was named a Scholar All-American Team for the 2010-11 season, its sixth-consecutive year receiving the honor, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced.
The RedHawks, sporting a 3.47 cumulative, team grade-point average, tied for 14th among all NCAA Division I schools and were second among Mid-American Conference schools behind only Ball State, which topped the Division I list.
2011 graduates Kelsey Vehr and Megan Brunn along with junior Leah Thornton were recognized for their individual performances in the classroom and in the pool.
Vehr was named a Scholar All-American for the second time after also garnering the honor in 2009. She capped her Miami career with three individual and one relay MAC Championships in 2011 to give her ten total conference titles as a RedHawk and earned a third-straight trip to the NCAA Championships. She also leaves the Red and White holding five school and four conference records.
Brunn finished her career as a RedHawk with three bronze medals at the MAC Championships and earned Scholar All-American Honorable Mention for the third-straight year. Thornton, who won the 100-yard backstroke and was a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team at the conference championship meet, claimed a spot on the same list for the second year in a row.
All three swimmers earned First Team All-MAC and Academic All-MAC honors and Vehr was recognized as a Mid-Major All-American while Brunn and Thornton were named to the Mid-Major All-American Honorable Mention list.
