OXFORD, Ohio - Traditionally, the linebacker position has included some of Miami University football's greatest players. From MAC Players of the Year Bob Babich and Brad Cousino to JoJuan Armour and Dustin Cohen, today's All-Decade linebacker quartet of Terna Nande, Terrell Jones, Clayton Mullins and Matt Robillard lends credence to Miami's claim.
Miami University fans and media who submitted ballots to select the greatest RedHawk football players of the first decade of the 21st Century (2000-2010) were originally asked to select three linebackers but, because of a tie in the voting, a fourth man was added to the team.
Receiving strong consideration from the fans for All-Decade honors were runners-up Joey Hudson, Caleb Bostic, Jerrell Wedge, John Busing and Ryan Kennedy.
Terna Nande: The top vote-getter among every All-Decade linebacker nominee, Nande was one of Miami's strongest and most athletic players. At 6-1, 230 pounds, the Grand Rapids, Michigan native helped lead the RedHawks to a four-year league record of 25-7 from 2002-05, including three consecutive first-place finishes in the MAC East Division. Nande was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2004.
Terrell Jones: This St. Louis, Missouri native began his Miami career with a bang in 2000, being named to the Sporting News All-America Freshman team. Despite his 5-9, 218-pound frame, Jones was a two-time first-team All-MAC pick and was named to the 2001 Academic All-MAC squad. The 2003 team captain finished with 258 career solo tackles (sixth all-time) and 424 career total tackles (ninth).
Clayton Mullins: As a senior in 2008, Mullins earned first-team laurels for the second consecutive year, becoming the first Miamian to achieve that feat since defensive end Marcus Johnson in 2004 and 2005. The Fairborn, Ohio native was the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year and Miami's Most Valuable Player in '07, leading all league players in tackles with 143. Mullins ended his career with a total of 343 stops and 27.5 tackles for loss.
Matt Robillard: Miami's No. 17 came to Oxford all the way from Simsbury, Connecticut, lettering from 1999-2002. Robillard's 6-3, 238-pound body destroyed opponent ball carriers to the tune of 227 career solo tackles and 340 career total stops. His biggest individual honor came in 2001 when he joined teammate Terrell Jones on the first-team All-MAC squad.
