Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami softball team fell to Western Michigan Saturday evening, 5-2. The victory clinched the regular season title for the Broncos, while dropping the RedHawks percentage points behind Ohio for the MAC East Division championship. Miami is now 29-20 overall and 12-9 in the MAC. WMU improves to 20-26 overall and 13-5 in the MAC.

The big blow for the Broncos came in the top of the third inning. Already leading 2-0 with the bases loaded and two out, Kayla Houston hit a looping shot to shallow left field. Jordan McElroy dove for it and almost came up with a spectacular catch, but it bounced just in front of her and then over her, allowing all three runs to score and make it 5-0.

Miami got two runs back in the bottom of the third inning. Kayla Ledbetter led off the frame with her 26th walk of the season. Two batters later, Daniela Torres would send a deep shot over the left field wall for her second home of the year to make it 5-2.

Meghan Mawn would get a triple later in the inning on a shot that bounced off the centerfield wall, but the RedHawks were unable to bring her home. Miami would manage only one more hit the rest of the way, an infield single by Kathryn Russette. Torres finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI, a walk and one run scored.

The RedHawks complete the regular season on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they conclude their series with Western Michigan. Prior to the game, Miami will hold Senior Day ceremonies where Mawn, Russette and Jenna McGivney will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
