Miami Finishes 10th at World Championships

HELSINKI, Finland--Miami University's synchronized skating team finished in 10th place among the 21-team field of the world's top synchronized skating programs at the ISU World Championships on Saturday.
The RedHawks, one of two teams representing the United States at the event, earned a combined score of 162.74, finishing more than 15 points ahead the next best finisher. Competing as Team USA 2, Miami posted a score of 56.64 for its short program on Friday. On Saturday, the RedHawks notched a score of 106.10 for their free skate program, themed "Hypnotized by a Dream." Miami recorded a program component score of 55.59 and a technical element score of 51.51 but had one deduction in its free skate program.
Finland swept the top two spots with Team Finland 1 winning gold with a combined score of 215.43. Team Finland 2 followed closely behind with a combined score of 213.48. Team USA 1--the Haydenettes--finished third with a score of 205.40, followed by Team Sweden 1 (204.50), Team Canada 1 (202.60), Team Canada 2 (180.76) and Team Russia 1 (180.69). Team Sweden 2 jumped to eighth in the overall standings (167.02) with its free skate performance after sitting in 10th place following the short program. Team Russia 2 finished a mere 1.60 points ahead of the RedHawks in ninth place with a combined score of 164.34.
Team Germany finished behind Miami in 11th place (147.63) followed by Team Japan (141.80), Team Czech Republic (136.58), Team Italy (129.53), Team Switzerland (114.92), Team France (111.60), Team Austria (109.35), Team Australia (99.96), Team Croatia (92.67), Team Belgium (75.61) and Team Great Britain (53.24).
This completes the competitive season for Miami's synchronized skating teams. All three teams will perform one last time for the Miami and Oxford communities at the annual Ice Show at the Goggin Ice Center Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16.
