We began our day with a 10 a.m. practice at the main arena. After a quick off-ice warm-up, we entered the official competition rink and got a feel for the ice. We started with a complete run through of our short program followed by smaller sections. Unfortunately, we ran into some complications with our music; however were still able to stay focused and continue pushing. Overall, the practice was smooth and it was a great introduction of what was to come. Afterward, we stayed to cheer on our fellow USA team, the Haydenettes.
After lunch we had some down time, where I was able to catch up on some homework. Our second practice was at 3:45 p.m. at the practice arena. We did a run through of our long program and then visited smaller sections as we did in the long. After our second practice we went back to the main arena to watch the draw. It exhibited several different Finish teams of various levels skating together in an opening show. The skating order we drew was number 15 out of 21 teams.
I have competed at two senior world championships previously, and I am very excited to be here one again. This team has worked harder than any team I have ever been on to regain our place on a world team and I know our hard work will definitely show. I'm ready to make these last performances the best skates of my career, and I know this will be a year to remember for all of us.
Miami University's synchronized skating team is one of two teams representing the United States at the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The competition is April 8-9, and this week different members of the team will write about the team's trip in Finland. Today's blog is by Jana Fronda, a senior exercise science major with a minor in gerontology from Oak Brook, Ill.
