Miami Earns 1-0 Shutout Over Wright State

April 13, 2011

Final Stats

DAYTON - Junior Jessica Simpson had all of her pitches working as Miami shutout Wright State, 1-0, Wednesday in non-conference action. The RedHawks improve to 17-15 overall, while the Raiders fall to 18-16.

Miami scored the only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Jordan McElroy reached first base on an error by the pitcher. McElroy then stole second base. Meghan Mawn moved her over to third base with a single through the right side. Allie Larrabee followed with a perfect squeeze bunt, with McElroy sliding under the catcher's tag to score the run.

Meanwhile Simpson allowed only five hits in earning her ninth shutout of the season and 15th victory overall. She got out of a bases loaded jam with only one out in the bottom of the third inning by forcing a strikeout and a pop out to third base to end the frame.

With a runner on second base in the bottom of the seventh and two outs, Wright State was able to get a base hit to centerfield. The Raiders attempted to score the runner, but McElroy threw a perfect strike to catcher Jenna McGivney to tag the runner out and home and end the game.

Miami returns to Mid-American Conference play when it travels to Central Michigan Friday for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
