CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Wright State put six of its nine leadoff hitters on base, seeing four of those score, to earn a 5-2 win over Miami in the first round of the third annual Joe Nuxhall Classic Tuesday afternoon.

Ryan Brenner and Bryce Redeker each had two hits and drove in a run. John Crummy, Kevin Bower and Jon Edgington also had hits for the RedHawks.

The Raiders (20-8) took a 1-0 lead in the third on a pair of singles around a sacrifice, but Miami answered back in similar fashion in the bottom of the frame. Freshman John Crummy, making his first career start, hit a bouncer up the middle for his first career hit. He was sacrificed to second and came home one out later on a single by Ryan Brenner.

Wright State took the lead for good in the fourth, plating two runs, the first of which was unearned. A leadoff error and two walks loaded the bases. After an out, Sam Picchotti doubled down the left-field line to put the Raiders up 3-1. They added another run in the fifth on two singles and a sacrifice for a 4-1 lead.

Miami, which falls to 16-17 with its third straight loss, rallied for a run in the sixth to close the gap. Edgington singled to center and took second on a wild pitch. Two outs later, Redeker singled for an RBI.

A throwing error by Crummy on a two-out strikeout in the dirt allowing another unearned run in the seventh for the final margin.

Miami starter Shawn Marquardt (2-5) took the loss, despite allowing just two earned runs in 3.1 innings. He walked a pair and struck out one, while allowing seven hits.

Wright State freshman Joey Hoelzel allowed just six hits in 7.0 innings to earn his first career decision. Michael Schum pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

Miami faces the Xavier, a 6-5 loser against Cincinnati, in the consolation game Wednesday. The contest will start at 3 p.m. at UC's Marge Schott Stadium.
