Senior Team in Second; Junior Team Finishes Sixth

ONTARIO, Calif.--On day two at the U.S. National Synchronized Skating Championships, Miami University's senior team got off to a solid start, sitting in second place after the short program, while the junior team finished sixth at the event.
The RedHawk senior team had a clean skate with no deductions. Miami amassed a score of 64.75 for its program choreographed to "Bridge Over Troubled Water," notching a total element score of 32.64 and a program component score of 32.11.
The Haydenettes lead the nine-team senior field by nearly 10 points after posting a score of 74.28 in the short program competition. Miami holds a 2.43 edge over the Crystallettes heading into Saturday's free skate event. California Gold follows with a score of 59.40. Starlights (49.04), Western Michigan (48.20), ICE'Kateers (47.31), Denver Synchronicity (38.50) and Illinois (35.84) round out the senior division field.
Miami's junior team posted a score of 89.09 for its free skate program choreographed to Broadway music. The RedHawks had a total element score of 42.29, a program component score of 47.80 and had one deduction. Miami finished sixth in the free skate after finishing sixth in the short program on Thursday.
Skyliners had the top score for the free skate with a 127.48 and won the 11-team junior division with a combined score of 190.45. Team Braemar finished with a combined score of 178.75, followed by Lexettes (175.81), Chicago Jazz (151.66), Evolution (144.06), Miami (138.54), Synchrettes (126.81), Team Image (125.49), Team Excel (125.48), Hockettes (123.71) and Synchro St. Louis Diamond Edges (85.98).
The senior team finished its stint at the U.S. National Championships with the free skate event on Saturday evening, while RedHawk collegiate team seeks its seventh straight national title on Saturday.
