With the win Saturday, Miami extended its season-long unbeaten streak to 11 games, going 8-0-3 during that stretch. This streak ties last year's season-long unbeaten streak as well. The RedHawks also increased their winning streak to five straight games, also a season long. During the five-game streak, Miami has allowed just one goal in each game, outscoring opponents 23-5.
The second-round sweep of Alaska is the first in CCHA Tournament play for Miami since a 2008 series sweep against Bowling Green. The RedHawks are now 2-0 in CCHA Playoff series against the Nanooks all-time.
Miami secured a berth in the CCHA Championship in Detroit for the second straight year. This is the first time the RedHawks have reached Detroit as a No. 3seed. It is also the first time Miami has reached the semifinal round in an odd-numbered year since 1997.
Andy Miele recorded his ninth 3-plus-point game of the season with a goal and two assists Saturday, and increased his consecutive point streak to 15 games. Miele's two-goal and two-assist weekend puts him in eighth place on Miami's career points list with 153, and third place for Miami's single-season assists chart with 44.
The RedHawks went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill Saturday night, improving its percentage to 89.0 percent (170-for-191), which ranks second nationally. Miami has killed 42 of its last 43 opponent power plays dating back to Feb. 4 vs. Michigan.
Senior Vincent LoVerde's second-period goal was his second goal of the year, and fellow defenseman Cameron Schilling recorded his third goal of the season Saturday. LoVerde's goal came short-handed, also his second career shorty.
Miele's two assists on Saturday night gives him 14 multi-assist games on the season. He had just nine multi-assist games his first three years combined.
Carter Camper's two assists in the series moved him to within one point of tying Rick Kuraly for second place on the Miami career points list, as he has 178 for his career.
The RedHawks continued their power play dominance notching another power play goal on Saturday night. The top-five nationally ranked unit has notched a power play goal in 10 of the last 12 games dating back to Jan. 21 against Michigan State.
