Senior Team Finishes Third at Spring Cup

MILAN, Italy--With a third-place finish in the free skate event, Miami University's senior synchronized skating team ended up finishing in third place at the Spring Cup in Milan, Italy, among a 10-team field.
Representing the United States at the international event, the RedHawks recorded a score of 107.86, despite three deductions, for their free skate program themed "Hypnotized in a Dream." Miami finished second in the short program with a score of 60.51 to its program choreographed to "Bridge over Troubled Water" and placed third overall with a combined score of 168.37.
Team Surprise (Sweden) had the top score for the free skate (126.75) and finished first at the Spring Cup with a combined score of 191.75. Tatarstan (Russia) had the second-best score for the free skate with a 117.95 to move ahead of the RedHawks in the final standings with a combined score of 176.80.
After the top three teams, there was nearly a 25-point drop off. Hot Shivers (Italy) finished fourth with a combined score of 143.5, followed by Sweet Mozart (Austria) at 109.68, Team Dancer (Switzerland) with a combined score of 101.81, Dandelion (Italy) scoring a 90.20 at the event, Nova (Australia) with a score of 84.94, Shining Blades (Italy) scoring a 66.04 and Team Temptation (Belgium) with a combined score of 56.22.
Miami will host its National Send-Off, one of the few home performances by all three teams all season, at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28 in Steve Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center before all three teams head to the U.S. National Championships in Ontario, Calif., March 3-5.
