ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Miami University's senior and junior synchronized skating teams got off to a strong start on the first day of its season-opening competition at the Dr. Porter Classic. After Saturday's short program, the senior team is in first place among the seven-team field and the junior team sits in fourth place among the six-team field.
The RedHawk senior team amassed 61.66 points for their program choreographed to "Blue Suede Shoes" and holds a 3.33 edge over the Crystallettes, who have 58.33 points after the short skate. Les Supremes are in third with a score of 57.24, followed by Skyliners (52.17), California Gold (46.31), Starlights (40.99) and Western Michigan (38.55).
Miami's junior team compiled 41.38 points for its program themed Cha-Cha and is a mere 1.79 points out of second place. Skyliners lead the junior field with a score of 47.71. Les Supremes are in second with a score of 43.62, while Chicago Jazz sits in third with a score of 42.33. Hockettes are in fifth place behind Miami with a score of 39.76 and Denver Synchronicity rounds out the field with a score of 28.39.
All three RedHawk teams compete on Sunday on the final day of the Dr. Porter Classic.
