Heading into Sunday's competition, collegiate team captains seniors Lauren McHenry and Emily Stephenson took time to put together their thoughts on the weekend competition and give insight on their preparations for their skate on Sunday.
Saturday morning we boarded the bus and departed for Ann Arbor for our first competition of the season, the Dr. Porter Classic. Most of us enjoyed a good nap on the bus ride up, while others watched a movie. It was a great ride and we were all excited to get here and meet up with the junior and senior teams for lunch at Karl's Cabin.
Saturday evening, we watched the junior and senior short program event, in which our junior team placed fourth and senior first. Both teams had incredible energy on the ice, which made us excited to skate our official practice later that evening. After the senior event, the collegiate team got ready to warm up for practice.
Midway through warm-ups we were informed that the practice times had changed and we had five minutes to be on the ice. After five minutes of frantic chaos, running to the locker room and throwing on our dresses and skates, Miami's collegiate team jumped on the ice and skated an incredible program for official practice. We are so proud of everyone pulling together a great performance despite the unexpected rush. It was a fun performance for practice, especially with the senior and junior teams holding up signs for us and cheering loudly.
Following practice, all teams went back to the hotel for a long-anticipated dinner, and hit the hay to get a good night's sleep. This morning, the junior and senior teams have had their official practices for the long program, and collegiate is getting ready and pumped up to finally compete!!
We're working on our Beyonce inspired make-up and hair, and will head down for video review shortly before 11 a.m., when we will load the bus to compete. We are feeling so ready and confident, knowing we can take on anything, especially after last night's practice!
We cannot wait to compete at our first competition and open the season with a bang!!
Love & Honor!!!
