Captains' Corner is a weekly update from a captain or leader of one of the RedHawks' 19 teams that will run every other Thursday throughout the academic year. Today's update is from women's basketball's Kirsten Olowinski. Kirsten is a junior from Erie, Pa. who prepped at Mercyhurst Prep. She is a sports studies major. Check back on Dec. 29 for the next edition of Captains' Corner with the men's swimming and diving team
After completing nine games so far this season, I am feeling really good about our team this year. We've had our ups and downs so far, including a great win against Indiana and our unfortunate loss by one point to Duquesne, but we always seem to come back and play with a chip on our shoulders the next game to get a win. We won the past two home games and have three more left (the next being vs. Cincinnati on Dec. 17th at 2:00) before hitting the road to play at Robert Morris. We are having a great season so far on our home court and are looking to continue the winning both at home and away!
Being a junior this year, it is fun to be playing with not only the girls from last year, but our freshman as well. We have a very strong and deep team in which every person contributes in one way or another which makes the season all that much more fun. We are able to rotate every player into the lineup based on their strengths, and because of this, different people are able to step up in different game situations, showing how good we can be as a whole as the year continues!
It is still early on in the year and MAC play hasn't begun just quite yet, but between our amazing trip as a team to Turkey and Greece, followed by our competitive and strong pre-conference schedule, I think that our team has had some great opportunities to see where we're at and where we need to be. I'm looking forward to continuing our success in the pre conference schedule and getting better each and every day at practice because that moves us one step closer to the MAC tourney and one step closer to becoming a championship team. Hopefully we'll see some of you in the stands for our next game, if not for a few of the upcoming games!
Love and Honor,
Kirsten
