OXFORD, Ohio - Miami will host dual meets at the Nixon Aquatic Center Nov. 11-12 as the Men's Swimming and Diving team will face Ohio State on Friday at 5 p.m. and both the men's and women's teams will welcome Division III powerhouse Kenyon in a co-ed meet on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The men's team brings a 2-2 record into Friday's meet against OSU, ranked 11th in the latest CSCAA National Top-25 poll, released Nov. 9. Last season, the RedHawks fell to the Buckeyes 144-94 last year in Columbus as returning senior James Beres and junior Anderson Whipp won the one-meter diving and the 100-yard breaststroke, respectively. Ohio State, the 11th-place team at the NCAA Championships last season, comes to Oxford with a 4-0 record. The Buckeyes will be the second-straight Big Ten and nationally-ranked opponent the RedHawks face as they competed against No. 17 Purdue in their last meet on Oct. 28. Beres earned Mid-American Conference Diver of the Week honors for his efforts against the Boilermakers.
On Saturday, Kenyon's men's and women's teams come to Oxford. Last season Kenyon topped the Miami men, 132-111. The RedHawks earned three wins in that meet, all by returners. Beres took first on the one-meter board while current junior Michael Grainger finished first on the three-meter and senior Chris Gunnels won the 200-yard freestyle. The Lords sport a 1-1 record with a win over fellow Division III opponent, Denison and a loss to Ohio State. Last season Kenyon saw its run of 31-consecutive Division III National Championships come to an end as it swam to a runner-up finish, just one point behind 2011 Champion Denison.
The Miami women are 2-2 on the season and will host a Kenyon team that finished fourth at the 2011 Division III National Championships and is 0-2 so far this season. Last season the RedHawks cruised to a 168-71 win over the Ladies as five current members of the Red and White won events. Sophomore Nikki Craft won both diving events while senior Chelsey Bruington took first in the 200-yard freestyle and juniors Bekka Westrick, Leah Thornton and Maegan O'Connor touched first in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard butterfly, respectively.
