Toledo Tops Women's Swimmers

Toledo, Ohio - Sophomore diver Nikki Craft (Bay Village) won twice and junior freestyler Bekka Westrick (Fairfield) won once, but Miami's women's swimming and diving team fell at the hands of host Toledo, 179-120, Friday night.
Coach Dave Jennings' RedHawks saw their dual meet record even out at 2-2.
Craft dominated both the one-meter (266.85 points) and three-meter (277.65) diving events, scoring nearly one-sixth of the RedHawks' 120 points by herself. Junior Lisa Werwinski (Canton) was runner-up in both events.
Westrick swam the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.78, beating her Rocket opponent by just three one-hundredths of a second. Maddie Kete (Bay Village) took third place.
Miami's only other first-place finish came in the meet's final event, the 400 freestyle relay. Westrick, Kete, Leah Thornton (Helena, AL) and Chelsey Bruington (Mission Viejo, CA) swam the relay in a time a 3:32.31.
Finishing second in their respective events were Bruington in the 200 free, Thornton in the 100 backstroke, Stacie Clagg (Canton) in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, Maegan O'Connor (Fishers, IN) in the 200 butterfly, and Westrick in the 100 fly.
Behind Craft's 18 individual points, Miami's top point-scorers were Westrick (16), Clagg (11), Werwinski (8), O'Connor (7), Courtney Collett (Hilton Head Island, SC, 6), Thornton (6), Kete (5), Bruington (5), Molly Tyler (Birmingham, MI, 4), Katie Bootsma (Eden Prairie, MN, 4), KAYLA SCOTT (St. Charles, IL, 3), Kelsey Mallon (Wheaton, IL, 3), Jenny Warmolts (Upper Arlington, 2), Brianna Fujan (Byron, MN, 2), Ellen Barhorst (West Chester, 1) and Stacia Schacter (Atlanta, GA, 1).
Miami next competes on Nov. 12, joining the RedHawk men in a coed meet against Kenyon College. The first event begins at 2 p.m. at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
