OXFORD, Ohio--This Saturday, the Miami University synchronized skating teams are giving fans a sneak preview of the RedHawks' programs for the upcoming season. All three teams will be showcasing their programs in an exhibition at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The synchronized skating exhibition is at Coach Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center and is free and open to the public.
Although the exhibition is free, the RedHawk skating teams are asking patrons to bring a non-perishable item that will be donated to the Oxford Food Pantry.
Miami's senior team skates its short program to "Blue Suede Shoes". The senior team's free skate program is themed Gypsy set to Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-Sharp Minor.
The collegiate team's competition program is choreographed to music by Beyonce. The RedHawk junior team's short program is themed Cha-Cha and set to "Sway" and "Let's Get Loud," and its free skate program is themed Dancing in Paris.
In addition to the three Miami synchronized skating teams, guest skaters at the event will be the Oxford Ice Crystals Juvenile Team.
The exhibition is a tune-up for all three teams, who open their 2011-12 competitive seasons Dec. 3-4 at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic. The RedHawks will try to sweep gold at the national championships March 1-3 in Worchester, Mass.
Miami's senior team is coming off a second-place national championship performance and berth to the ISU World Championships and seeks to return to the World Championships this season, which will be held April 13-14 in Goteborg, Sweden.
The collegiate team, the seven-time defending national champions--the most consecutive national crowns by any U.S. program at any level of synchronized skating--tries to tie women's figure skater Michelle Kwan's stretch of eight-straight U.S. national titles and strives for the program's 14th national title at the collegiate level. The junior team is working towards the varsity program's first national title at that level.
