Ice Hockey
Last Week: Miami (7-6-2) won the Denver Cup last weekend with junior forward Reilly Smith earning MVP honors and senior goaltender Cody Reichard, freshman forward Austin Czarnik and senior defenseman Cameron Schilling all being named to the All-Tournament Team. Smith scored two goals and Reichard provided strong goaltending as the RedHawks topped host No. 9/10 Denver, 4-2, in the title game on Saturday. (RECAP) Senior forward Alden Hirschfeld and freshman forward Blake Coleman each had two goals and an assist while the Miami hockey team scored a season-high six goals en route to a convincing 6-2 win over Providence Friday afternoon. (RECAP) Last week, senior Chris Wideman was tabbed the CCHA Defenseman of the Week. (RELEASE) This Week: The RedHawks return to CCHA action next weekend when they travel to Marquette, Mich. for a two-game series with Northern Michigan Friday and Saturday. Puck drop both nights is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Senior forward Julian Mavunga averaged 22.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg in a pair of RedHawk (2-2) contests last week. Mavunga tallied his 16th career double-double and ninth in Miami's last 15 games with 18 points and 14 rebounds in a 71-61 win at Saginaw Valley last Monday. (RECAP) Mavunga tied a career-high with 27 points in a 64-57 loss at Southeast Missouri last Saturday. It was the ninth 20-point performance of his career. (RECAP) This Week: Miami makes a quick trip to play its third local rival in five games, battling Cincinnati at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Ohio. The RedHawks then travel to Alabama to face Troy at 8 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Dec. 3.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Head Coach Maria Fantanarosa recorded her 200th Miami win as the RedHawks defeated Indiana last Tuesday at Millett Hall, 77-72. Four RedHawks scored in double figures led by Courtney Osborn and Maggie Boyer with 19 points apiece. (RECAP) A tough second-half shooting performance and some costly turnovers late did in the RedHawks (3-2), 71-62, Friday afternoon at Stetson. Osborn led the RedHawks with 21 points. (RECAP) Courtney Osborn was tabbed the MAC East Division Player of the Week last week after averaging 21.0 ppg in a pair of RedHawk wins. (RELEASE) This Week: Miami plays one game this week when it hosts Iona at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 in the annual "Class at the Court" game, which will have over 1,500 elementary students from the Talawanda School District in attendance.
Football
Last Week: Sophomore wide receiver Nick Harwell enjoyed a record-setting performance for the third straight week, but a late rally fell short as Ohio hung on for a 21-14 victory over Miami (4-8; 3-5 MAC) last Tuesday at Peden Stadium in the 2011 season finale. Harwell caught 14 passes for 163 yards to set the single-season receptions record with 97, topping Armand Robinson's standard of 94 in 2010. (RECAP) This Week: Season concluded.
Volleyball
Last Week: Miami dropped its season finale, 0-3 (15-25, 16-25, 12-25), to Big East Champion Cincinnati last Saturday. Amy Raseman led the RedHawks with six kills in her final match. Chelsea Visk had four blocks for Miami, which finishes the season at 16-16. (RECAP) This Week: Season concluded.
Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving
Last Week: Both teams were idle. This Week: The RedHawks host the three-day Miami Invitational Dec. 1-3 at the Nixon Aquatic Center. Thursday's session is at 6 p.m. and sessions on Friday and Saturday are 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
All three RedHawk synchronized skating teams open the 2011-12 campaign at the Dr. Porter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend. The senior and junior teams compete on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4, while the collegiate team competes on Sunday.
The women's indoor track and field team also gets its 2011-12 season underway this weekend when they compete at the IPFW Mastodon Opener in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Saturday, Dec. 3.
