OXFORD, Ohio - Miami men's swimming and diving welcomes Xavier to the Nixon Aquatic Center for the team's first home meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The RedHawks are 1-1 after splitting a double-dual meet with Southern Illinois and Evansville on Oct. 8. Miami beat Evansville by a 179-57 margin and fell to SIU 162-81. Senior James Beres and junior Chris Hoppler won the one- and three-meter diving competitions, respectively, to lead the RedHawks.
Last year, Miami opened the 2010-11 season with a 143-114 win over Xavier on Oct. 23 as five returning swimmers in 2011-12 won events. Senior Chris Gunnels finished first in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and fellow senior Brendan Melling touched first in the 200 breaststroke. Juniors Ian Joyce and Alex Reinhardt won the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle, respectively, while sophomore Sean Minderlein won the 1000 freestyle in his first event as a RedHawk.
Both the men and women's teams are in action as the RedHawks host the Musketeers in a coed dual meet. The opening event, the 400 medley relay, starts at 2 p.m.
