Synchronized Skating Announces Schedule

Miami University's synchronized skating teams unveiled their 2011-12 schedule, head coach Carla DeGirolamo announced Thursday. In addition to their competition schedule, the RedHawks will perform during an intermission at six hockey games as well as holding two exhibitions in Oxford and skating in the annual Ice Show.
Miami opens its competitive skating season at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., Dec. 3-4. All three teams will skate in the season-opening competition.
The junior team returns to the ice Jan. 6-7 at the 2011 Junior World Qualifier Competition in Lowell, Mass. If the team finishes among the top teams, the RedHawks will advance to the 2012 Synchronized Skating World Junior Championship, March 9-10.
The collegiate and senior teams return to action at the 2012 Mid-America Synchronized Skating Championships Jan. 14-15 in Fraser, Mich.
Making the first international trip of the season for the RedHawks is the junior team when they travel to Salzburg, Austria, for the Mozart Cup Jan. 27-29.
The senior team will represent Miami in the program's second international trip of the season when they travel to Rouen, France, for the French Cup International Feb 2-4. Miami's collegiate team will make their third competitive appearance at the Tri-State Championships Feb. 11 in Fraser, Mich.
All three teams head to the 2012 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in Worchester, Mass., March 1-3. The senior team looks to make a repeat appearance on the world stage with a top-two finish at nationals. If the RedHawks finish among the top two, they will advance to the 2012 World Skating Championships in Goteborg, Sweden, April 13-14. The junior team looks to earn a medal at the U.S. National Championships, while the collegiate team seeks to tie Michelle Kwan's string of eight consecutive U.S. national titles.
The first time Miami will perform in 2011-12 will be when it holds its first exhibition of the season at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. All three teams will be performing all of their competitive programs as part of their Parents Weekend Exhibition. Prior to the U.S. National Championships, Miami Skating will hold a Nationals Send-Off Exhibition at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 where all three teams again will perform all of their competitive programs. Both exhibitions will take place in Coach Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
Each team also will perform twice at a Miami University hockey game. The collegiate team will perform at an intermission at the Nov. 11 hockey game, while the senior team will skate during the No. 12 hockey game. The junior team will skate at the Nov. 18 hockey game. Miami's senior and collegiate teams will perform on respective nights at hockey's Jan. 20-21 weekend series, while the junior team will skate during hockey's Feb. 17 game.
The RedHawks' final performance of the 2011-12 campaign will be at the Annual Miami University Ice Show, which will be the weekend of April 20-21.
