Miami Junior Forward Julian Mavunga
On Miami's play as a team: "I feel like a lot of the season we've had games where one guy shines or another guy shines, but I just feel like we were in sync more than we have been in any game this whole entire season during this game. We really had a good sense of unity in this game and we got the job done together."
On holding off Akron in the end: "Akron is always one of the better teams in our league. They're a tough team. We knew if we let up they would come back."
Miami Senior Guard Antonio Ballard
On the importance of closing Akron out: "If you watched Akron play [this season], there were times where they got down by a lot, like when they played OU [Ohio] recently, they were down by about 25 and they cut that to a seven-point game. We knew that Akron was a team that can keep chipping away, cutting the lead down."
On Miami outrebounding Akron: "My mentality is to try to get to the boards as much as I can because the more you get to the boards, the more rebounds you get and the more chances and possessions you get."
Sophomore Guard Orlando Williams
On being 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first half: "I guess it carried over from the BG [Bowing Green] game. I've just been in the gym, working on my shot and today it showed."
Head Coach Charlie Coles
On starting the game strong: "I thought we came out ready to play. I thought we did a real good job of establishing ourselves on the court. In the past, we've given up offensive rebounds and not run the offense with energy and not established ourselves. Tonight we got that going."
On the play of Mavunga, Winbush and Ballard: "Our big three in [Julian] Mavunga,[Nick] Winbush and [Antonio] Ballard played really well. Ballard, the first half wasn't great because he got those two fouls. But I thought in the second half, every time we needed a play to be made, he made it. And then I thought Julian passed the ball really well."
On Miami's guards: "We've got some good guards. They've got good physical ability. They're big and strong. Quinten Rollins had a really good rebound. We had a seven-point lead, and he went up and got a rebound and I thought it was one of our big guys. We just have to get them thinking more."
On the competition in the MAC: "This might be the toughest league in America to coach in. We have 12 teams in the league and one piece of bacon ââ'¬Â¦ just one is going dancing. We've got to get a good seed for our tournament."
