Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - Injuries and foul trouble plagued the women's basketball team Tuesday night in a 69-56 defeat to Ohio University. Miami falls to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats improve to 5-13 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.

Maggie Boyer led the RedHawks with 12 points in the game. She had to take over point guard duties for the majority of the contest after sophomore point guard Courtney Osborn went down with an injury. Miami held Ohio to 36.5 percent shooting overall (23-for-63), but was hurt by giving up 23 offensive rebounds and several timely three-point baskets. The RedHawks shot 31.8 percent (21-for-66) for the game themselves.

The teams traded the lead several times early in the contest with Boyer and Osborn each hitting three-point baskets. With Miami in front, 8-6, a 9-0 run by Ohio gave the Bobcats a 17-8 advantage with 11:05 remaining in the half. A Boyer three and a Rachael Hencke layup would help the RedHawks close the gap, as they pulled to within six at 23-17, but three 3-point baskets helped Ohio close on a 10-6 run and head into the break in front, 33-23.

Ohio would expand the advantage to 13 (40-27) four minutes into the second half. Hencke answered with back-to-back triples as Miami made it 40-33 with 15:03 to go. Each time the RedHawks would get it to within six or eight points, the Bobcats would answer with a key basket or offensive rebound. They eventually would get the lead back to 13 at 55-42 with 7:09 remaining before Miami would make one last run.

Jumpers by Boyer and Kirsten Olowinski were followed by a layup from Hannah Robertson. Robertson was fouled on the play and made her free throw to make it 55-49 with 4:21 to go. The RedHawks would go cold for the next two minutes, but only gave up one Ohio basket. Finally at the 2:12 mark, Boyer found Olowinski for a short jumper to make it 57-51. Miami would play great defense on the next possession, but Tenishia Benson would hit a three-pointer from the corner as the shot clock expired to put the game out of reach. The Bobcats would hit their free throws down the stretch to earn a 69-56 victory.

In addition to Boyer's 12 points, Hencke finished with 11. Alesia Howard led the Bobcats with 15 points. Ohio outrebounded Miami 50-41 overall for the game.

Having completed the first set of games against MAC East Division opponents, the RedHawks now will begin play against the MAC West. First up is a trip to Northern Illinois for a Sunday matinee. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. (EST).
