CINCINNATI, Ohio--Double victories by Miranda Kaltenborn (Memphis, TN) and Megan Brunn (Mansfield) led Miami's women's swimming and diving team to a 175.5-124.5 win at Cincinnati Friday night (Jan. 14).
The RedHawk women improved their dual meet record to 7-1. They're ranked No. 1 in the latest CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll (Division I schools from non-BCS conferences).
Kaltenborn touched the wall first in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events, contributing 18 points to Miami's victory.
Brunn captured both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and placed second in another event, giving her a team-best 22 individual points.
All-American Kelsey Vehr returned to her hometown of Cincinnati and scored 17 individual points, including a first-place finish in the 400 individual medley. Vehr also teamed with LEAN THORNTON (Helena, AL), Bekka Westrick (Fairfield) and Maddie Kete (Bay Village) to win the 200 medley relay.
Westrick was victorious in the 50 freestyle and totaled 10 total points.
Chelsey Bruington (Mission Viejo, CA) earned 13 points for the RedHawks, including a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle.
Other Miami women who contributed individual points in the victory over UC included Thornton (8), Kete (8), diver Corrine Bangs (Monument, CO, 8 points), STACEY CLAGG (Canton, 7 points), Kelsey Mallon (Wheaton, IL, 7 points), MAEGAN O'CONNOR (Fishers, IN, 7 points), Mandi Grandjean (Canton, 4 points), Sarah Bullock (Louisville, KY, 3 points), Molly Tyler (Birmingham, MI, 3 points), Ellen Barhorst (West Chester, 3 points), Margaret Eppright (Shaker Heights, 3 points), Lisa Werwinski (Canton, 3 points), Jenny Warmolts (Upper Arlington, 3 points), Taylor Koplow (Carmel, IN, 2.5 points), Cynthia Donovan (Cincinnati, 2 points), Laura Krueger (Cincinnati, 2 points), Brianna Fujan (Byron, MN, 1 point), Katie Arlinghaus (Oxford, 1 point), Lauren Wallace (Columbus, 1 point), Kristin Hrabowy (Gahanna, 1 point) and Katherine Reinmann (Alpharetta, GA, 1 point).
Ball State provides Miami with its next dual meet competition, hosting the RedHawks in Muncie on Jan. 22.
