Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles
On Nick Winbush's go-ahead 3-pointer 28 seconds to play in regulation: "That's the second straight game that Nick [Winbush] has come up with some big shots. And that's good for our team. Our team has to make some shots, and we're doing a little more of that now than what we were early in the year."
On Miami's energy as a team: "I think after the third or fourth game of the year I was really bothered by a lot of things and finally I just said forget the mistakes, let's give them one thing to do and that's play hard. I don't know if we can cut out all the mistakes. I don't think we've got that kind of a team. But I do think we have a team that can have a lot of energy and a lot of spirit."
On some areas Miami has improved upon recently: "We're outrebounding teams and we're shooting more free throws than other teams now, which means we are trying to get it inside. We are trying to drive that ball to the basket."
Nick Winbush
On starting MAC play 2-0: "We took some lumps, but it's a long MAC season and this is really when the games count. We just have to keep working and keep getting wins and get a win on Sunday against BG."
Antonio Ballard
On learning from the challenging non-conference schedule: "If we go out against those teams, it lets us know where we are [as a team]. When we came out before a game, I talked to everyone about it I said, 'All the stuff we've been through, we need to use those times as motivation, this is where we get our reward.' That's why we play that number one schedule. We had our ups and downs throughout that preseason. This is where we try to come together and collect our reward. We're using that as motivation."
Julian Mavunga
On Nick Winbush's 3-pointer with 28 seconds to play: "We set up a play for Antonio, and they completely overplayed it so we just backed it out. I think I went out and got the ball and gave it Q [Quinten Rollins], Q came off the ball screen, that's a freshman making a huge play. Nick's shot was big, but there was a pass that Q made. It was a nice penetrate-and-pitch by Quinten Rollins. He just hit him with a pinpoint pass, and it was money after that. 'Bush (Winbush) took care of the rest. Big Shot 'Bush."
