OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami Men's Swimming and Diving team beat MAC-foe Evansville 170-110 Wednesday night at the Nixon Aquatic Center. Junior James Beres led the RedHawks with two wins, taking first in both diving events. The win was a complete team effort as nine different RedHawks won individual events.
Miami (2-4-1, 1-1 MAC) opened the meet with a convincing win in the 200-yard medley relay as sophomores Matt McKee and Lucas Rhodenbaugh along with freshmen Jonathan Profitt and Elliott Batchelder turned in a time of 1:36.10, more than three seconds ahead of their closest competitors from Evansville (3-5, 0-2 MAC).
The RedHawks went on to win five of the next six events with wins by sophomore Ian Joyce in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.79), senior Tom Janszen in the 100-yard backstroke (53.67), Profitt in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.59), senior Darin Smith in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.08) and junior Chris Gunnels in the 50-yard freestyle (21.84).
Beres won on both the one- and three-meter diving board as Miami's only multiple-event winner, posting scores of 365.03 and 347.09, respectively. The other event-winners for the RedHawks were senior Mark Healey in the 100-yard freestyle (47.39), freshman Mike Kline in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.16) and freshman Mike Cavanaugh in the 200-yard IM (1:59.05).
