OXFORD, Ohio -- Nearly 100 former Miami baseball players returned to campus recently to participate in the annual fall alumni weekend, enjoying golf, baseball and numerous social activities.
The weekend started with a golf outing at Indian Ridge Golf Course, with 91 players teeing up for the start. The winning foursome consisted of Matt Hughes (1991-92), Ryan Borland (1993-94), Rick Fenner (1992) and Mike Wolff (1992-94). Billy Kieninger won the longest drive competition, while Kevin Bower made the longest putt. The Closest to Pin prize went to Brad Cisar.
At Saturday's alumni game, over 40 players donned the Red and White again, with the Older Team (Redskins) gaining revenge from last year over the Younger Team (RedHawks). The final score was 9-0 with captain Denny Smith returning to lead the "older" team to victory.
Rusty Ventresca, Billy Keininger and Brian Weeks combined to shut out younger team while OF Scott Walti and C Luke Reinhart were named co-MVPs. Each had two hits and combined for six runs batted in.
The baseball staff offers a sincere thanks to all the alumni who participated and encourages everyone to plan for the spring alumni weekend, scheduled for the Western Michigan series, April 15-17.
